Agent Vinod's Graphic Version

Yogesh Chandekar is an ex-advertising professional. He now writes for comics, animation and films. His latest work, a comic adaptation of Saif Ali starer AGENT VINOD is a the latest in the adult comic books that is doing the runs. After films like " Sholay", "Don" and " Ra.One" among others, it's "Agent Vinod" that is going the graphic way. While the books don't necessarily follow the exact series of events that take place in the movie, the tone of the novel and its characters is in sync with the film.
"The Jungfrau Encounter" as it is named based on the lead character. But the story is different. Thus, there is a degree of independence here and the plot varies.  The 90-page graphic novel is priced at Rs 250.

Graphic Novels/Adult Comics are increasingly becoming popular in India. The recently-concluded World Book Fair in Delhi too saw a number of stalls dedicated to graphic novels. Jitendra Bhagnani, a Mumbai-based illustrator, was glued to the graphic novels based on the mysteries of Agatha Christie. "I like the way these stories have been depicted. The panelling and the colours are done very well," Bhagnani exclaimed as he browsed "Murder On The Orient Express" and "Ordeal By Innocence" - the Christie classics.

The Agent Vinod graphics are designed by Saumin Patel, a Mumbai-based independent illustrator specializing in graphic fiction, pre-production art and animation. He has worked with some of India’s leading filmmakers, ad agencies and TV channels and has had his work published internationally by renowned comic book studios and publications.

Anurag Kashyap Vs Dibakar Banerjee

So who is the No 1 avant-garde film director of Mumbai? Dibakar Bannerjee or Anurag Kasyap. Recently in an interview, Anurag's wife Kalki Koechlin had admitted that Anurag Kashyap is jealous of Dibakar Banerjee. Anurag has seen 'Shanghai'. He is little jealous of Dibakar Banerjee for having made a film like this," Kalki told IANS at the world premiere of her film at the ongoing International Indian Film Academy awards here. 'Shanghai' is set to be released on Friday.

DIBAKAR  BANNERJEE

The actress, who looked elegant in white embroidered gown, was here with co-star Abhay Deol and Banerjee for the world premiere of "Shanghai". However, Kashyap was missing.
Asked about the reason for his absence, Kalki said: "He (Kashyap) doesn't like to attend award functions. Also he is filming in Mumbai, that's why he couldn't come. But he supports me for the film."
Shanghai,  is already doing the rounds of being the biggest thriller of the year. With actors like Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi and Kalki Koechlin the film is creating enough buzz in the industry. The film will also see the comeback of the power house Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, who'll be seen in a Hindi film after 21 years.

ANURAG KASHYAP
But Anurag is also out with latest thriller - Gangs of Wasseypur. It too has not just made waves in international circuits - competing at the Cannes film festival - but has also got fans in those who have watched it before release. And don't judge it primarily by its international reviews, in case you are thinking this is a film just for the 'festival types'. It has got global critics comparing Anurag to Tarantino and Coppola, but has also got the desi audience thoroughly entertained. As Anurag Kashyap says, mainstream is no more mindless.

And there is certainly enough space for two mindfull people in Mumbai.
